Abstract

Abstract The cholinergic electromotor system of the electric ray, Torpedo marmorata, provides a hypertrophied version of the normal motor nerves supplying the muscles which simplifies the biochemical study of cholinergic transmission. The mechanism of storage and release of acetylcholine from the presi, naptic nerve terminal and the interaction of the transmitter with the postsynaptic membrane can all be .studied with this system.
