Abstract

Abstract In 1983, a competition was announced to build a microprocessor-based robot to play pingpong. The paper describes one of the systems built in response to the article, ‘Robat Charlie’ which is the current European robot pingpong champion after winning the finals of the competition in September 1985. System details and associated software are outlined, and a discussion of the robot's vision system and mechanics are given.
