Abstract

Abstract By combining systems methods, theoretical concepts from ecology about carrying capacity, and energy analysis, the human carrying capacity of the Lake Tahoe Basin is examined. Fundamental differences between human and ecological systems point to the need for a socially determined human carrying capacity and to a carrying capacity that is evaluated and regulated as limits on the inputs to a region.
