Abstract

Abstract We obtain an analytical solution for the adatom density on a stepped surface during MBE under conditions allowing the neglect of island formation and fast-step effects. The novel feature of our result is that it contains the explicit dependence on the step sticking coefficient over its entire range, from blocking to total absorption. An approximation is introduced through the use of a consistency constraint that leads to a simple, closed-form expression. Related results are obtained for the coverage and step velocity as well as a relationship connecting these two quantities.
