Abstract

Abstract Magnetic-specific-heat data for Mn(C 5H 5NO) 6(BF 4) 2 in the range 0.05 < T < 1.5 K are presented. In this material the Mn 2+ spins form a nearly simple cubic magnetic lattice. Magnetic ordering is observed to occur at T c = 0.158 ± 0.002 K. The magnetic exchange is estimated as | J/ k| ≅ 7 mK. The analysis of the specific-heat curve is hampered by the fact that the exchange interaction, the hyperfine coupling and the crystal-field splittings are all of similar magnitude.
