Abstract

Abstract In order to study the α and the Johari–Goldstein β relaxation processes in polyhydric alcohols, the broadband complex permittivity measurements were performed on supercooled polyhydric alcohols, mixtures of polyhydric alcohols (the molar ratio is 1:1) and water-in-polyhydric alcohols. According to the Arrhenius diagram for all the samples, the loci of the relaxation frequency of the α process systematically change with carbon number of polyhydric alcohols. However, the loci for the β process show the similar behavior. These difference and similarity must be helpful to understand the molecular dynamics of supercooled polyhydric alcohols.
