Abstract

An overview of the progress in nondirected oxidations of aromatic C–H bonds is presented. In this Chapter, two primary reaction classifications are considered: (1) metal catalyzed arene C–H oxidation and (2) C–H bond oxidation without metals. The merits of both protocols are described considering different metal catalyst/oxidizing agent combinations and nonmetallic conditions. Synthetic applications and mechanistic aspects of C–H oxidations are presented.
