Abstract

Abstract Measurements of the rate of absorption of Cl 2 into liquid benzene from a mixture of N 2 and Cl 2 have been carried out using a wetted-wall column as a model reactor. It is shown that the results for both the gas and the liquid phase can be interpreted by means of an unsteady state diffusion model The gas—side resistance and the liquid—side resistance each exert about half the total resistance. Absorption rates measured at a bulk gas velocity differing from the gas—liquid interfacial velocity by up to ±20% show no significant deviations from those predicted by the model for equal bulk gas and interfacial velocities.
