Abstract

Abstract In this study we report on the resistivity and specific-heat behaviour of Uin3n Ni 3(Sb 1− x Sn x ) 4, with x = 0, 0.1, 0.5, 0.9 and 1. Our measurements indicate a continuous transition from semiconducting behaviour for U 3Ni 3Sb 4 ( x = 0), to a “heavy-fermion” state in U 3Ni 3Sn 4 ( x = 1). We relate the electronic properties to the number of 5p-electrons (which increases with the Sb-content) and the role of 5p-5f hybridization (which probably causes the semiconduction state).
