Abstract

Abstract Soaking in water or solutions of ascorbic acid, CaCl 2, KH 2PO 4, NaCl, succinic acid and ZnSO 4 followed by drying of seeds of sunflower ( Helianthus annuus L.), improved field emergence and early growth of seedlings. This seedling vigour is associated with enhanced oxygen uptake, increased amylase activity and the efficiency of mobilizing nutrients from the cotyledons to the embryonic axis.
