Abstract

Abstract Five possible kinetic mechanisms that are of relevance to the study of dye-linked dehydrogenases are examined in detail. It is shown that three of these mechanisms are linear and the remaining two are hyperbolic in double reciprocal space. These features allow three mechanisms to be distinguished by initial velocity studies alone, and product inhibition studies may sometimes but not always allow further resolution. A novel analysis of substrate inhibition is presented and finally, two relevant studies in the literature are discussed in the context of the present analysis.
