Abstract This paper was presented at the First British Colloquium on Project Management under the general theme of ‘jumping to the next generation’. Over the last quarter century, there have been few revolutionary changes in the way projects are managed. Increasing complexity of projects and the project environment have meant that despite improved methods, many projects still fail to meet expectations. Poor communication and collaboration are often cited as reasons. Technology is available today to improve the effectiveness of meetings and a speculative story of a day in the life of a project manager in the year 2020 illustrates how collaborative technology may be the most significant change in the way projects are managed in the future.
