Abstract

Abstract Faulty shaft alignment is possibly responsible for around half of all premature machine damage. Getting it right not only saves the bill of expensive repairs and spare part consumption, but also time and money lost in plant shut down and lower running costs. Here, Paul Poste compares the different methods from traditional eyesight and dial techniques to the more sophisticated laser technology of today.
