FIGURES OF THE PARTY. FORMATION AND DEFINITION OF THE GROUP, 1932-I946 In a diachronic corpus composed of Cahiers du Bolchevisme/Communisme, R.B. studies the correspondence between discursive and political strategy at three periods in the history of the French Comunist Party (1932, 1935-36, 1945-1946). He distinguishes three phenomena in his contextual analysis of nous and Party : tension between the enunciator and the adressée, which may be more or less marked depending on their degree of interactio ; the distance constructed between nous and Parti ; and, lastly, the opening-up of the discourse to the world outside. The tension is most marked in 1932 : the identification between enunciator and adressée is seen as part of an ideal only attainable at some point in the future. The figure of the Party is maintained at a distance from nous. The discourse is for internal consumption. A change is perceptible in 1935-1936 and continues throughout 1945-1946 : the tension is considerably reduced ; the nous-receiver tends to become indistinguishable from the nous-sender ; the discursive space of the nous-member of the front makes an appearance. The opening- up is limited to the peripheral extension of the group. Between 1945 and 1946, nous and Parti are interchangeable, the opening-up is only circumscribed by national frontiers, the nous-sender merges with the nous-receiver in the over-all national context.
