Abstract

Abstract Series of photographs taken by Rangers VIII and IX are used to test statistically for crater alignments as a function of (a) topography and (b) size of crater. An alternative to a previously used method of testing for crater alignments is now used: this does not suffer to the same extent from edge effects. It is shown that a certain proportion of both large and small lunar craters are very probably of internal origin.
