During the past decade, evidence has accumulated to indicate the possible role of the adrenal cortex in the etiology of human hypertension. The most important observations are related to the frequent occurrence of hypertension in Cushing's Syndrome as well as in certain types of congenital hyperplasia and to the affect of total adrenalectomy on malignant hypertension which has often been followed both by a substantial fall of blood pressure and by a decreased incidence of cardiovascular lesions.
