Giant static and dynamic magnetism in the La2CuO4family of superconductors: a progress report

Abstract

Abstract The question of single vs multi-band description of La 1.85Sr 0.15CuO 4 is discussed in terms of the disparate nuclear spin-lattice relaxation ( T 1) behaviors of 63Cu and planar 17O in this system. Recent data for the transferred hyperfine coupling at the planar oxygen sites in La 2CuO 4 are shown to be consistent with earlier results indicting multi-band behavior. Ordered state 17O shift results in La 2CuO 4 are shown to mandate a new magnetic structure in the weak ferromagnetism of this compound.
