Abstract

Summary An ellipsoid model, based on confocal quadrics, was designed and used to assess the feasibility of plotting three dimensional potential fields with asymmetric boundaries, and also to develop the operational techniques of doing so. An analytical solution was available, so that measurements taken with the three dimensional probe, and at fixed positions by means of multiple probes at the boundaries, might be compared. Both an electrolytic tank and a three dimensional resistance network of similar geometries were used in the investigation and results obtained by these methods compared well with the analytical solutions.
