Publication Date

With mind to performing high level performance analysis, a player testing technique has been developed specifically for use with players in competition and practice. Features include the use of only two cameras, minimal intrusion of the player's environment, high levels of portability and full 3D recording. Testing is performed using two Phantom V4.2 high speed video cameras operating at 1000 frames per second. Racket movement is tracked using five low mass (<2 g) reflective markers attached at specific points on the player's racket, the ball is tracked as a single point. This method allows us to measure accurate ball and racket speeds, impact points and instants and angular velocities of the racket in three dimensions. This paper outlines the development of this methodology and how it has been implemented in practice conditions.
