Abstract

Abstract The action of the dopamine autoreceptor agonist 3-PPP was examined in several putative models of antipsychotic action. Whereas this agent was capable of reducing d-amphetamine-induced locomotor stimulation at low doses, it was strikingly less potent in modifying conditioned avoidance responding and d-amphetamine-induced stereotypy. These findings are discussed in relation to a preferential action of 3-PPP on limbic dopamine mechanisms, and to the drug's potential as an antipsychotic agent devoid of extrapyramidal side-effects.
