Abstract

Abstract Multielemental Si 3C x O y □ z N 4–( x+ y+ z) nanowires and nanoscrews with a diameter of a few tens of nanometers and a length up to a few tens of micrometers have been synthesized for the first time and the possible mechanism for their formation is analyzed in this investigation. The one-dimensional nanomaterial has a β-Si 3N 4 structure with the long axis along the 〈2 1 0〉 direction.
