Abstract

Abstract Positron annihilation techniques have been used extensively in laboratory studies of defects in metals. Because of its non-destructive nature, it is natural to consider the application of positron annihilation to in-field testing. Concerns which are raised by the consideration of in-field testing include the effect of the source-sample-detector configuration and the effect of surface preparation on the sensitivity of the technique. The present study found these two variables to have very little influence on Doppler-broadening positron annihilation measurements.
