Abstract

Publisher Summary This section of the book, Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis, Volume 57, Part B (Spectroscopic Characterization of Heterogeneous Catalysts), focuses on the methods employed in the quantification of the extent of chemisorptions of molecules on metals and metal oxides, with special emphasis on methods that best describe the dispersion of the active components in practical catalysts. It discusses the infrared (IR) technique that has proved to be the most widely applied vibrational spectroscopy technique in both qua1itative and quantitative determinations of molecular species and atoms in catalyst surfaces. This section also describes electron vibrational spectroscopy (EELS), magnetic resonance and its applications to the characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, and desorption methods.
