Abstract

Abstract The extent of homogeneous mixing in a continuous stirred tank reactor can principally be determined by measuring the conversion of an autocatalytic reaction. Using the Landolt-reaction with arsenite as reducing agent, the mixing of separate feed streams is studied in two reactors of different geometry. It is shown that the proposed method is sensitive but that the experimental conditions must be chosen with care to avoid ambiguity.
