The ongoing nursing shortage and nurse recruitment and retention are hot topics in the public press and professional journals and conferences. These issues are also top-ranking concerns of health care organization leaders. Unfortunately, no one silver bullet can prevent RN vacancies and turnover. Numerous studies have analyzed how some hospitals use creativity and innovation to tackle nurse recruitment and retention issues. At least two different studies reached similar conclusions: an organization's professional practice environment has a great influence on nurse recruitment and retention.
