Abstract

Abstract The loss function ε 2/ ε 2 1 + ε 2 2 for plasmons in terms of the real (ε 1) and imaginary (ε 2) parts of the dielectric function ε( q, ω) is first analyzed phenomenologically. The total width at half maximum is thereby related to electron relaxation time and plasma frequency. Some contact is made with experiments on metallic alloys.
