High pressure synthesis and characterization of superconducting YBa2(Cu3−xAux)O7−δand YSr2(Cu3−xAux)O7−δ

Abstract

Abstract Previous research has shown that Au can substitute for Cu in YBa 2Cu 3O 7−δ and only becomes superconducting when Y is doped with Ca. In this study, we have investigated the structure-property relationship of Au-doped YBCO without Ca substitution, and found that the compound system is still superconducting and has a variable composition range. We have also synthesized and characterized Au-doped YSr 2Cu 3O 7−δ, and found that it too is also superconducting with a variable composition range. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of these two compound systems and compare and contrast their physical properties.
