Abstract

The direct pathway is one of the two major neural networks through which information flows in the basal ganglia circuitry. It consists of a monosynaptic projection that originates from D1 dopamine receptor-containing neurons in the striatum that terminates directly in the basal ganglia output nuclei, the internal segment of the globus pallidus and the substantia nigra pars reticulata.
