Abstract

Abstract The infrared spectrum from 33 to 550 cm −1, and the Raman spectrum with some polarisation measurements, are reported for P 2I 4. The data indicate that P 2I 4 has the trans I 2PPI 2 structure with C 2 h symmetry in the solid state and in solution. The fundamental frequencies suggested for the solution are: a g - 316, 303, 114, 78; a u - 327, 90, 51; b g - 330, 95; b u - 313,109 and 65 cm −1. The infrared spectrum of PI 3 is also reported.
