Abstract

Abstract A theoretical treatment of the ultrashort time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) from multi-mode molecules is presented in order to qualitatively explain the time development of quantum beats in the nonresonant CARS from a mixture of pyridine and cyclohexane, which has been reported by Leonhardt et al. It is shown from the comparison of the observed time-resolved spectra and the calculated ones that the effects of the intermolecular coherence transfer between the Raman active vibrational transitions make an important contribution to the time-dependent behavior of the quantum beats.
