Abstract

Virus was sought in the blood and urine of 7 children after primary smallpox vaccination. No virus was isolated from either source. Virus was isolated, however, from the urine of 2 children with complications of vaccination and was recovered from the blood of these children after treatment of the blood with Genetron 113. In addition, a “new” strain of virus, which may be an altered form of vaccinia virus, was isolated from a lesion of a thigh of one of the children with complications of vaccination.
