Abstract

Abstract Theoretical correlations based on the empirical model of Miedema et al. have been used to obtain the solubility of transition metals in low-melting metals. A comparison of the calculated solubilities of transition metals in liquid lithium with the experimental data of the X-ray absorption spectrum analysis was conducted. Using the coordination cluster theory, equations were derived to estimate the solubility of transition metals in multicomponent metallic melts containing nonmetallic impurities. The results of the calculations of transition metal solubilities in Pb17Li and Pb17Li containing oxygen are also discussed.
