Abstract

Abstract Characterization of ceramic/metal joints produced by diffusion bonding using fusion candidate ceramics (A1 2O 3, ZrO 2) and alloy (JPCA) was carried out to investigate their applicability in fusion reactors. The characterization includes bending tests, SEM observation of the fracture surfaces, TEM observation and EDS microchemical analyses of the interfaces. Mechanisms of the strength degradation by bonding and possible ways of improvement were examined.
