Abstract

Abstract Attempts to predict subjects' responsiveness to a weight control program were classified into four categories of independent variables and reviewed. Independent variables included demographic characteristics, personality measures, personal weight history, and subject's self- reinforcement style. Of the large number of individual variables surveyed only three appeared to have any predictive validity: age of onset, locus of control, and self-reinforcement style. The clinical utility of such tools is discussed.
