Abstract

Abstract Base sequences of certain genes in the mammailan ans avian genomes are constructed in a way that endows them with a measure of immortality. Provided that the number of bases in the oligomeric unit is not a multiple of three, coding sequences that are respeats of base oligamers become impervious to the two most dysfunctioning mutational base changes that cause premature chain terminations and reading frameshifts. Oncogene coding sequences as a group appear to have descended from the above type, thus, still possessing a measure of immortality.
