Abstract

Abstract The chemical interactions of 6-OHDA with brain tissue after intracerebral injection have been investigated with a new in vivo technique. Soon after injection 6-OHDA equilibrates with its quinone, with about 40% of the total 6-OHDA in the oxidized state. The fraction oxidized remains constant, despite a rapid decrease in total 6-OHDA concentration. The data indicate degradation of the6-hydroxy-p-quinone, either by intramolecular rearrangement to form 5,6-dihydroxyindole, or by nucleophilic binding with brain tissue.
