Abstract

Abstract The radio-echo meteor technique has been used to investigate atmospheric density and scale-height variations between altitudes of 85 and 105 km. A diurnal oscillation of density with an amplitude equal to 13 per cent of the mean density at 96 km is found. The amplitude of this oscillation increases by a factor of 3 over the observed height range. A semi-diurnal density variation approximately half the diurnal oscillation is also present.
