Abstract

Abstract The Green-function decoupling schemes of Takano and Ogawa, Gavan and Doman, and Bresemann and Bailyn which were applied to the s-d exchange hamiltonian have been checked against exactly soluble models. All three schemes have been found to contain serious errors. The scheme of Bresemann and Bailyn can easily be modified to agree with the exactly soluble model in its prediction of ground-state ensemble averages when the exchange interaction is positive. However, this modification, though correct, still does not completely close the set of Green functions and hence the problem still remains incomplete.
