Additionally to printed or digital books and journals, electronic information systems are an important part of the collection of academic libraries. As regards books and journals, the acquisition and collection development procedures are well defined; however, there is a lack of systematic overviews concerning the management of electronic information systems. This paper describes a framework for discussing the various aspects of the management of electronic information systems, including assessment of information needs, selecting, testing, acquisition, licensing, technical aspects and systems management, preparation for use, and information services. The emphasis of this paper is placed on the situation of university libraries in the field of economics and business.
