Abstract

Abstract The lattice parameters of the layered compounds (CH 3NH 3) 2CuCl 4 and (CD 3ND 3) 2CuCl 4 have been determined in the temperature range 1.5 K < T < 365 K by means of neutron- and X-ray diffraction techniques. For increasing T a gradual transition to orthorhombic symmetry is found in the temperature range 200 K ⩽ T ⩽ 270 K. At T = 348(1) K a first-order transition from orthorhombic to tetragonal symmetry has been observed.
