Abstract

Abstract Raman spectra have been obtain for an aqueous dispersion of the phospholipid sphingomyelin at temperatures in the range 22.5–47.0°C. A band profile analysis identifies 7 individual bands between 1000–1400 cm −1. Changes in the intensity of the various components in this region are used to interpret the structural changes that occur when aqueous dispersions of sphingomyelin undergo an order-disorder transition.
