Abstract

United Farm Workers of America (UFW) organizer Jerry Ryan, dressed as "Zeezo" the clown, stands outside a Safeway store in Denver, Colorado. The store was running a promotion with it's own clown to entertain customers. Ryan, dressed as the clown, and another unidentified clown, members of the United Farm Workers of America, hijack the event, they hand out candy and leaflets and picket the store. A sign around Ryan's neck reads: "Safeway Unfair to Farm [Wo]rkers." A sign in the store window reads: "Zeezo the Clown Will Be Here Sat. Oct. 23 3:30 to 6:30 PM. Free..." Mexican American children are by the clown, one has a balloon with writing that reads: "Boycott Safeway." A woman holds leaflets and holds a sign that reads: "Boy[cott] Safe[way]."
