Abstract

Abstract The toxicity of the vapours of Acorus calamus rhizome oil against the immature stages of Sitophilus granarius (L.), Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Tribolium confusum J. du V. and Callosobruchus chinensis (L.) was studied. The eggs of C. chinensis were the most susceptible, S. granarius eggs were slightly more susceptible than those of S. oryzae, whilst those of R. confusum were not affected. In all cases, the younger embryonic stages were more susceptible than later stages. Larvae and pupae did not show any appreciable susceptibility to the vapours.
