Abstract

Abstract In the Hofstadter problem, when tha magnetic flux through each plaquette ∅=2 πp/ q is small, the energy spectrum can be matched to the Landau energy levels. In the large q limit, the energy levels are equally spaced, the corrections can be calculated from the perturbation. The decay of the Hofstadter band width as q→∞ is discussed. As ∅→0, the effect of the lattice disappears completely for the bands away from the center, while for the bands near the center, the effect of the lattice still persists.
