Abstract

Summary Bilateral atrophy of the mandibular condyles after maxillo-mandibular surgery for correction of a Class II open-bite is reported. Although a definite cause could not be ascertained, it is postulated that a biomechanical phenomenon based on increased muscle tension was the most likely causative mechanism.
