Abstract

Abstract Far-infrared magnetotransmission measurements are reported on the energies of the coupled intersubband-cyclotron resonance excitations in a GaAs-GaAlAs heterojunction in the presence of a large tilted magnetic field. It is experimentally found that the lowest lying coupled mode is pinned to an energy which is somewhat lower than the electric subband separation leading to an opening of a gap in the excitation energy spectrum. This is in qualitative agreement with a recent theoretical prediction.
