Abstract

Abstract Indirect photometric detection of hydrocarbons was investigated in micro high-performance liquid chromatography. An aromatic hydrocarbon was added in the mobile phase to maintain a background. Hydrocarbons were sensitively detected owing to their perturbation of the partitioning characteristics of the visualization agent. Subnanogram detection limits were achieved.
