Abstract

Abstract Diaphragmatic injuries may be undiagnosed in the acute posttraumatic period and may remain unrecognized despite a variety of chronic symptoms, until eventual emergency department presentation with an intestinal obstruction. We present a case of a female who experienced chronic chest pain during coitus that eventuated in an acute admission with an intrathoracic mesentero-axial volvulus of the stomach, 8 months after a motor vehicle accident. The literature regarding delayed presentation of a ruptured hemidiaphragm is reviewed.
