Abstract

Abstract Alkylbenzenes, alkylbenzene sulfonates, and petroleum ether extracts of alkylbenzene sulfonates have been tested for carcinogenic action on the skin and subcutaneous tissues of mice and on the skin of rabbits. All materials, except for a noncommercial sample of alkylbenzene, were found to be without carcinogenic activity. The alkylbenzenes, consisting largely of dodecylbenzene, produced a small number of tumors in the skin of mice previously treated with a subcarcinogenic dose of a carcinogen.
