The California & Northeastern Road is now building north from Weed, a point on the Southern Pacific line, to Klamath Falls, and the permanent survey is completed. It is expected that the road will be in operation by the fall of this year. The Southern Pacific Company has announced its intention of constructing a road connecting its present main line, at Eugene, Oregon, with lines extending throughout Central and Southern Oregon. One line will connect, at Klamath Falls, with the California Si Northeastern, thus providing a more direct route between Portland and San Francisco and avoiding the heavy grades existing on the present route. The McCloud River Railroad Company, starting at Upton on the Southern Pacific line, is building towards Lower Klamath Lake, where connection can be made with the boats of the Klamath Lake Navigation Company running from Klamath Falls to Laird, California, and way points. The Klamath Lake Railroad, which was recently purchased by the Weyerhauser interests, is now operated from Thrall, California, a Southern Pacific station, to Pokegama, Oregon. From Pokegama to Klamath Falls, a , distance of 36 miles, stage lines are now operated, and this, at present, is the usual route traveled in reaching the Klamath region.
